Francisco Jimeno is a Spanish violinist living in London. He is a great enthusiast and promoter of the contemporary repertoire and has been working with several composers in the creation and premiere of new works for his instrument.

His collaboration with the Catalan composer David Bozzo has resulted in several pieces for solo violin, string quartet and violin and piano, with an active role in his review, publication and premiere. Noteworthy is the premiere of the violin concerto at St James Piccadilly in 2015, with the orchestra Philharmonia Britannica. The result of this collaboration also includes the recording of a CD with Bozzo’s solo violin music that was released in September 2014. It is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Other performances with contemporary works include the premiere in UK of the concerto for violin by Claudia Montero, awarded a Latin Grammy in 2014, performed with the London City Orchestra. His actual project includes a series of concerts with new works for violin solo dedicated to him by composers of several countries, including Spain, Italy and United States, which will culminate with the recording of a CD. He had successful performances in Palau de la Musicain Valencia and several venues in Barcelona. Next destinations will be London and the Music Festival of Contemporary Music in Trieste.

In London, he is pursuing a freelance career and has been leading several orchestras, such as the London Classical Soloists and the London City Orchestra. In Spain, he is the concertmaster of the orchestra Symphonia Orbitalis and he performed the double violin concert of Malcolm Arnold in July 2017. He has had the opportunity to perform together with members of the main London leading orchestras. Previously he collaborated with several professional orchestras in Spain, including the Castellón Symphony Orchestra, the Gijón Symphony Orchestra and the Asturias Symphony Orchestra.

Francisco has a great experience in chamber music. He was for three years first violin in the Billroth Quartet, performing in important venues as St. Martin-in-the-Fields and Wigmore Hall. The Billroth Quartet was the quartet in residence of the Newham Academy of Music in 2010 and 2011. He also participated in master classes with members of the Wihan String Quartet, the Danish String Quartet and the Carducci Quartet. He is currently the first violin of the London City Quartet and they will be premiering several new compositions in London and in several venues in Spain.

Francisco is an Expert in Music Analysis and Interpretation by the University of Oviedo and holds a Master’s degree in Interpretation from Trinity College in London, under the direction of the prestigious violinist Mayumi Fujikawa. During his training, he continued his studies with Manuel Puig (Spanish Radiotelevision Orchestra), Michael Thomas (Brodsky Quartet), Christopher Blezien (Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory) and Vasko Vassilev (Royal Opera House, London). For two years he studied with Yossi Zivoni (Royal College of Music, London).

In addition to his musical career, Francisco holds a BA in Humanities from the Universitat Jaume I, where he taught Spanish Contemporary History. He is now completing his PhD studies at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and is associate in Queen Mary University in London.
