Riyad Nicolas

Riyad Nicolas was born in Aleppo, Syria in 1989 .He studied music at the Arab Institute of Music in Aleppo and Purcell School of music in London. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Prof. Sulamita Aronovsky and graduated in 2011. Riyad also holds a LRAM Diploma for teaching all ABRSM Grades from the Royal Academy of Music. He has been an official piano teacher at “London Music Centre” since 2009.
 In England, Riyad gained considerable experience through private teaching over the past 6 years, preparing pupils of all ages for graded examinations from Grade 1 right through to Diploma. In the past, all his students have successfully passed various diploma exams and won important prizes in local competitions.

Apart from teaching the ABRSM examination syllabus, he strongly encourages his pupils to learn to play music for pleasure and for personal development also.
His teaching methods are flexible depending on the student with a focus on developing piano technique, building musical insight, building up repertoire and making it altogether fun and inspiring for the student
The numerous international prizes he won include Best Piano Student Prize of the Syrian Arab Republic for two consecutive years (1998-1999), 1st Syria National Piano Competition 2004, Educational Award Prize in the London International Piano competition 2005, 2nd Prize in the Seiler International Piano Competition (Greece 2006), 1st Prize (with a CD recording offer) in the Francaix International Piano Competition (Paris 2008) and a major prize in Ciutat de Carlet International Piano Competition (Spain 2009).
During his settlement in the UK, Riyad performed at numerous venues such St.John Smith Square, St.Martin-in-the Fields, St.Jame’s Piccadilly, Leighton House Museum and Many others in UK. He gave several concerto performances with orchestra such as the Chamber Orchestra in Aleppo, the Syrian National Orchestra, the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra in London and Emirate Symphony Orchestra in the Gulf.
Very recently in February 2012 Riyad was chosen as one of the Tillett Trust’s Young Artist ‘Platform Scheme and will be making debuts in Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall with London Chamber Orchestra during the autumn season of 2012.
Riyad Nicolas is one of the most exciting musicians to emerge from the Middle East.
