Phil Casey has been playing the drum set for the past 15 years and taken great care to better himself on the instrument. As a performer, Phil has played at international festivals in Denmark, Texas (SxSW), Paris , and various others throughout the UK including Glastonbury.
Phil’s recording credits include many recordings for Belfast based Roo which have received mass airplay in Ireland with releases on the highly creditable Fierce Panda label, BBC sessions with Irish trip-hop group Braille Acoustics, the Apply Machine EP for London based National Snack, various recordings with Nu-Rave outfit Trash Fashion and a recent recording session for Cornershop’s new album.
Awarded the coveted Rhythm Magazine scholarship in 2004 (to study on Drumtech’s flagship 1 Year Diploma course) Phil then went on to achieve a First Class Honours on Drumtech’s BMus degree course in music performance. While still studying on his degree, Phil secured private lessons with one of the UK’s most respected drum instructors, Bob Armstrong. Phil’s lessons with Bob continue to this day covering both jazz coordination and an in depth technical study of the Moeller system. In 2008, London College of Music awarded Phil their Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship to study music performance at masters level. Having graduated from this Mmus with a distinction Phil has now found more time to devote to his teaching and playing.
Phil’s private lessons are custom built around the student’s wants and ability. This can range from lessons in technique, coordination and styles, which can help broaden and advance a student’s playing, to working with a student to nail a tricky fill or groove by their favourite band. If desired, Phil is experienced in putting students through the Rockschool grade exams.
Lastly, lessons can be held at the student’s home or at Phil’s private studio.
