Niels Bakx has been playing and studying guitar for the past decade. In this time he has studied with teachers like Gianluca Corona (Andrea Parodi, Al di Meola), Dario Cortese (Guitar Techniques magazine, Larry Carlton, Albert Lee), Martin Goulding (Guitar World, Linear Sphere) and Jay Stapley (Roger Waters, Mike Oldfield). He has also had the privilege to have masterclasses from artists like Scott Henderson, Larry Carlton, Carl Verheyen and Greg Howe.
Niels holds a Higher Diploma in popular music performance and a Bmus (hons) in popular music performance from London’s prestigious Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and received an award for ‘best overall guitar student’ upon finishing his Higher Diploma course.
As a working musician he is involved in a wide variety of musical projects including rock band Los and the Deadlines, experimental jam-band What?!, Swedish singer-songwriter The Glass Child, contemporary orchestra We are children, We make sound, and function band Bare Acoustic. With these projects he has had the opportunity to professionally record, build up a network in the industry and regularly perform in London and surrounding areas.
His teaching experience has been built up over 4 years. Both in larger group settings, one on one private lessons, and two on one private lessons. With a teaching philosophy and method that focusses on the students’ individual interests and goals the aim is to create an enjoyable, rewarding and challenging experience. Niels has taught a wide variety of students, ranging from 8 to 32 years old, and from absolute beginners to intermediate/advanced players. Lessons are adapted to the student’s goals and can be constructed either as a course focussing on all aspects of music/guitar, music theory lessons or technique lessons.
