Michael De Souza has been performing regularly in a variety of professional situations, ranging from solo guitar performance, to jazz trios/quartets, Big Bands, including ongoing performances with NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra), Corporate Functions, Wedding Bands (playing Rock/Pop/RnB/Jazz) , Pit Bands for Musicals. He has also performed in some of England’s top jazz venues including Seven Arts Centre, Pizza Express Dean Street, The Pheasantry, Herts Jazz, The Lescar, Polish Jazz Cafe and many more.
As a teacher, Michael has 7 years of experience, ranging from classroom/group teaching to private one-to-one tuition. The lesson experience is relaxed and completely focused around helping the student progress to the next level. There is no pressure on you to be able to play things right away, as he will take you through all the necessary steps you will need, at a pace that is comfortable for you. As well as being a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors, Michael is part of the teaching roster for Royal Borough of Greenwich Music Hub, and Tower Hamlets Music Hub.
Michael is currently studying on the Masters programme at the Royal Academy of Music, studying Jazz Guitar, and is due to graduate in July 2014. In 2012, Michael graduated with 1st Class Honours from Leeds College of Music, where he was also awarded the college guitar prize for outstanding performance.
Michael is a friendly, dedicated and passionate teacher, who aims to not only pass on valuable knowledge, but to inspire the student to pursue an independent interest in the instrument, and in music.
