James Gardiner has over ten years playing experience and is proficient in teaching numerous styles including: flamenco, rock, blues, jazz and also electric bass. This includes Rockschool grades 1-8. He has been a freelance guitar teacher to all ability levels for the past three years. His playing experience ranges from work with various live bands across the UK, including his own, as well as studio recording and composition. James is also a sound artist with an MA from Chelsea College of Art and Design and has performed his compositions at venues such as the Barbican Centre and the Institute of Contemporary Arts. James’ aim in teaching is to instil a confidence in players, to bring together an understanding of playing technique, theory and an ability to improvise. An emphasis is also placed on finding the right musical path for an individual to take and James is happy to work with which ever pieces a student wishes to learn to play, and subsequently to make appropriate suggestions for new material.
