Gaya is a London-based singer-songwriter, vocal teacher and piano teacher born into an Armenian family and raised in Latvia, where she finished her education in music pedagogy and worked as a vocal and piano tutor.
She started studying classical piano at the age of seven, at the same time singing in choirs and ensembles. Then at the age of 16 she started taking vocal lessons from various tutors, starting with academic singing and then moving on to jazz and pop styles. Gaya participated in various contests and festivals, and in one of them received an award for “Best Voice Timbre”. While studying for her Bachelor Degree, she sang with a big band, small combos, lead her band, continued writing her own songs and music and started teaching music at school as well as privately.
In 2009 Gaya had an opportunity to sing with a musician who has inspired her the most – Bobby McFerrin at his solo concert in Sweden. Festivals and master classes have also given her a lot of inspiration from musicians who came from all over the world.
Since she moved to London in 2010 she has performed her original music at various venues in London. She is now studying on a postgraduate course in teaching singing, that is accredited by Cardiff Metropolitan University.
As a music tutor Gaya works with people of various ages and abilities. She believes in building a trusting and supportive relationship between a student and a teacher.
