Pedro Sampaio started his musical career at the age of 12 in a local band in Guimarães, his hometown in Portugal. He has never left the field always playing, as a solo instrumentalist or as part of an ensemble, band, or orchestra. Piedro has developed a particular interest in the tuba. In 2004 he received his undergraduate degree as an instrumentalist by the “Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo” (School of Music and Performing Arts) of “Instituto Politécnico do Porto” – Public Higher Education Institution, and a few years later, already working as a musician in the Naval Band of the Portuguese Navy and as a teacher in several schools and conservatories, he enrolled in a master program studying vocational education in music at “Universidade de Aveiro” from which he holds a post-graduate degree. Around 2011, Pedro started collaborating with the Orquestra Geração program, a project inspired by El Sistema, a social music program for children in Venezuela. His role in the Orchestra Geração grew from teaching to Deputy Director Music school. Pedros interest in teaching and leadership grew, which lead to several training sessions in orchestra management and early childhood education promoted by the National Conservatory of Lisbon.
At present, besides being a 1st sergeant and 1st tuba at the Portuguese Navy Band with periodic concerts throughout Portugal, Pedro also teaches wind instruments in solo classes, ensembles, and orchestras, coordinating groups of young musicians and teachers. Pedro is currently part of direction of the Tuba and Euphonium Portuguese Association in which he works as a treasurer, and is also required to conduct Orquestra Geração concerts.
